Dr. Rick Geisel, J.D., Ph.D., joined the College of Education faculty at Grand Valley State University in 2002. He has a background in law, teaching, and school administration. Dr. Geisel is a Professor in the Educational Leadership & Counseling Department. He teaches full time in the Educational Leadership Master’s and Specialist programs, primarily in the area of school law. Drawing on his background as a lawyer, teacher and administrator, Dr. Geisel uses a variety of strategies to prepare current and future school administrators for the legal complexities of their work environment. Research interests include a variety of areas within “school law” such as tort liability, disability law, due process, civil rights, parental rights, bullying and harassment, First and Fourth Amendment rights for students and public school employees, as well as issues surrounding the legal literacy and training of school administrators.
